`bright cyan`Main Menu Help
The Main Menu is the first menu you'll typically see when you begin
`bright yellow`Franchise Football `white`from this point, you may go to any of several
options.
`bright cyan`Read FFBL Gazette Sports Page
This is where you'll get all the latest information including league
standings, last nights scores, a history of the seasons scores, and
in the registered version a listing of league leaders in various
categories.
`bright cyan`View/Edit Team Roster
From here you can edit your players. Players can be benched from
the starting lineup, you can switch a players roster slot, allow
the computer to re-calculate your starting lineup, and train players
to make them better at certain skills. In addition you can View
a players stats, both for the season and the last game.
`bright cyan`Walk to the Front Office
The Front Office is where all on the managerial decisions take place.
It is here that you can upgrade you stadium, concessions, promotion,
publicity, and merchandising to increase revenue and attendance at
home games. You may also change ticket prices, move your team to a
new city or stadium, and change your nickname. Money is important
to the game. It is used to upgrade nearly everything. There is also
a bank option in the front office, which places funds in the bank,
and allows your money to earn interest at a rate of between 3 and 8
percent.
Franchise Football also allows you to tailor your Offensive and
Defensive styles from the Front Office. Here you can
put up to three different offensive and defensive play sets into
your playbook. You team will behave according to the plays. If you
pick all pass plays, that's what your offense will do 75% of the
time (pass). Maybe you'd rather a more balanced attack. Well,
you may elect to run as your primary set, pass as your secondary
set, and finally throw in another running play third. The number
of the play set roughly corresponds to the down on which it is
most likely to be called (for example, play set #1 is more likely to
be called on first downs, whereas play set #2 has a better chance of
being called on second downs, etc.)
`bright cyan`Scout an Opponents Team
Sometimes it is important to know about your competition. For this
reason you may choose to send out an advance scout to gather infor-
mation about your opponents. Under this option you may view another
team's roster, current starting lineup and statistics. In addition,
you can check out the other teams game tapes to see what types of
plays they run, and how many each game.
`bright cyan`Acquire Players Through Free Agency
In the registered version, owners may release players to allow roster
slots for any number of things. These released players are said to
be "free agents" and you as an opposing coach may sign them to play
on your team. Through this option you will see a listing of the
free agent pool, and optionally be able to sign the players.
Remember, there will have to be a roster slot opened for them to
join the team.
`bright cyan`Trade Players
Again, in the registered version, you may propose and accept trades
from other teams (owners). The trade segment allows you to trade
an uneven number of players, and include cash in the deal. Again,
you must have enough open roster slots - on the appropriate squad,
offensive/defensive - in order to finalize a trade.
`bright cyan`Instructions
This option brings up the instruction menu for you to get help with
a number of topics. Included in this menu is an option to list
the league settings.
`bright cyan`Quit to BBS
This allows you to exit the game back to the BBS system.
